Volker studied law at the Universities of Vienna (Austria) and Geneva (Switzerland) and received a doctorate in law in 2006 at the University of Vienna. He also successfully attended an International Executive MBA program at the Zurich University of Applied Studies (Switzerland) and completed various courses in mediation.

Volker is largely involved in dispute resolutions in sports and is a member of the Arbitral Board and the Disciplinary Commission of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the Swiss Chapter of the European Center for Arbitration and Mediation.

Volker is a regular lecturer at the AISTS in Lausanne (Switzerland) and speaks fluently German, English, French and Spanish.
